27 Halifax Street Project

27 Halifax Street is an all encompassing venue concept. We are looking to create a venue unlike anything else in South Australia. Through good design, experience and collaboration we will push the boundaries to create the next poster venue for the State.

Fun, quality and consistency will be the key drivers for all aspects of the offering and space. We are looking to create a multifaceted experience, where people can move around the venue’s unique elements, all of which will be centred around supporting local through produce, beverage, music and arts.

27 Halifax Street will be split into the three complementary areas described below.

The Restaurant

An approximately 80 seater restaurant will take up the Eastern side of the venue and be serviced by a central open kitchen. The food will be fresh, seasonal and centred around fire with both a wood oven and hearth grill in the kitchen lineup. Local produce and an extensive local wine list to fill our wine room will be a feature of the space.

Our focus on quality will be highlighted in the restaurant with the food, service and design working together to create a comfortable environment perfect for a long lunch or a fun dinner with friends and family.

The Casual Dining Area & Courtyard

The casual dining area will take the fundamentals from the restaurant and apply them to a casual menu focusing on snacks / tapas style shared plates throughout lunch and dinner. Aside from the food this space will offer a local drinks list of interesting wines, innovative cocktails and hyper local beers.

Big Easy venues have always stocked South Australian products and have built a strong relationship with these producers that we look to highlight to the consumer at any available opportunity.

We’ve taken the “hang out with friends at home” energy and applied it to a communal space where we always make sure the best next track is playing, the best next wine is pouring, the best next dish is rolling out and the mess is someone else’s problem. Warm and cosy in the winter and fresh, bright and vibrant in the summer, the venue adorns a 12 month seasonal personality adaptation that truly captures the creature comforts our home with the energy of our community.

We have been working closely with designers (CNTRL Space) and sound engineers (SONOS) to ensure the vibe remains within the venue. The courtyard area will be enclosed with a glass roof and the front doors with airlocks. We want the residents to be proud to be near 27 Halifax St, not resent it.

The courtyard will be a light and bright extension of the indoors but also offer a private space for group bookings and functions for the local community.

The Bowling Alley

We will be installing a two lane ‘hidden’ bowling alley to the western side of the tenancy designed with a nostalgic/retro feel. Bringing a fun and unique entertainment experience to the venue will be a draw card for both corporate and personal events as well as highlighting the fun element we want to see throughout the venue. The bowling alley will have it’s own small function space and be available for group bookings.

Gonzo Group

Gonzo Group is a personality driven hospitality group that leans heavily into the exaggeration of surreal, close to home and nostalgic emotions and experiences. Named after Hunter S. Thompson’s alter ego ‘Gonzo’, the group represents all things Gonzo too stood for; the removal of objectivity in replacement by emotion, exaggeration, humour, and a bustling and loud personality. The idea is that if you cannot personally resonate with the spirit or ethos of each concept, you can open your mind a little by experiencing what it is like to be immersed in it and begin to see the true life of other corner’s of society otherwise unexperienced. Either a haven for the like minded or a foreign and exotic taste of something completely new.

Venues currently owned and operated by Gonzo Group are Cry Baby, Memphis Slims and Shotgun Willies.
